While there is no defined sectoral focus of the programme, startups and SMEs that align with Malaysian economic make-up, sectoral strengths, and priority sectors are likely to benefit more from the programme. These include, but are not limited to: food and agriculture, tourism and hospitality, mobile & AI, manufacturing, etc.

There is no particular type/stage of startup that being targetted. However, we’re looking for startups that are post-revenue and at least beginning to show strong revenue traction in domestic (Pakistan) market and demonstrate readiness to go international. If you’re finding it easy to answer the questions in the application form, you have probably thought a bit about international expansion and are ready for the programme.

First is the size of the programme. This is not a big trade delegation (of 50-100 entities) focusing on quantities but rather a small private delegation (of 8-10 founders/CEOs) with a carefully curated itinerary designed to maximise benefit. Second, another aspect is selection of the delegation which happens with mutual consultation of IGPL, MTDC, IQI, and other partners – against driven by the partners’ ability to create an interaction useful for all visiting founders. Finally, in addition to a common programme aimed at meeting key stakeholders and a variety of Malaysian founders, partners, investors, this progrmame also aims to provide 1-on-1 matchmaking opportunities based on your needs.

If you’re interested in exploring Malaysia (and 680 million ASEAN market), this is a perfect opportunity for you to spend a week exploring the Asia Opportunity. Small group interactions where everybody is heard and interacts, rather than big conferences, are best suited for this. Malaysia is a modern, conservative, and business friendly country that could become your hub for a push towards Asia. It also provides a relatively cost-effective destination for a family relocation.
