#AI4Med Summer School being organised in partnership with AKUH, Indus Hospital, Shalamar Hospital, IMDC, and RMI, among others, from mid-June to mid-August 2024.
The Summer School on Data and AI in Medicine (#AI4Med) seeks to build the capacity of young professionals – young doctors and professionals, medical and computer science students, as well as a select set of others – to develop a thorough understanding of health datasets, their usage, as well as tools, techniques, challenges, and opportunities in the use of health data in Pakistan. The nature and essence of the Summer School is practical and hands-on with only enough theory to make practice accessible and meaningful as well as mentoring and guidance of senior researchers and seasoned practitioners to enable young professionals and learners to explore, develop capabilities, and make deeper connections with the field.
The #AI4Med Summer School shall create a critical mass and a cadre of young professionals who are attuned to and have their hands dirty with the tools, techniques, and problems of health data analytics and AI and many will evolve into either champions of data, analytics, AI and evidence; scholars and practitioners pursuing further education; or seasoned professionals actively working in this emerging area. This will not just address the shortage of high-quality talent in the medium-to-long term but will also begin to make some short-term progress on challenges in health data analytics such as availability of data, and use this to address problems and challenges.
In short, the #AI4Med Summer School shall seek address 3 layered set of objectives:
First, #AI4Med Summer School shall inspire and train 100-125 AI and Data Practitioners in both Medicine and CS/DS and related communities engaging in solving local problems using real-world data;
Second, #AI4Med Summer School will bring forth a Consortium of Progressive Hospitals leading on sharing and exploiting the potential of data and thus help create industry norms on health AI & data science;
Third, #AI4Med Summer School will seek to identify a small number of opportunities that can be further developed for scale-up or commercial exploitation and put in place funding and other mechanisms to make this happen.
The Summer School shall be organized, simultaneously, in multiple locations: Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and Peshawar and we’re speaking to and looking for partners to host these regional cohorts across Pakistan. The course will feature Pakistan’s leading AI and Health Analytics Practitioners as Teaching Faculty and guest speakers from around the world.
Summer School Dates:
June 20 – August 20, 2024
Summer School Fee:
Professionals (Doctors, CS/AI/DS etc.) – PKR 50,000 (25% Discount if paid before May 25th.
Students (Medicine, CS/AI/DS, etc.) – PKR 25,000 (25% Discount if paid before May 25th)
Limited number of need-based scholarships are also available.
Each Team shall have at least 1 person with medical and one with CS/AI/DS qualification.
(2-month) installment plan for full-payment available upon request.
Target Audience:
The Summer School targets the following (in order of priority):
Medical (MBBS, BDS, BSN) and CS/AI/Data Science Professionals (1-5 years)
Graduate Students (PhD, MPH, MS CS, AI and Data Science, etc.)
3/4/5th year Medical, CS/AI/DS Students (or exceptional junior students)
Business, Statistics, Mathematics Professionals and Students.
Course Faculty:
A Mix of Pakistani and International Medical Practitioners, Researchers, and AI and Data Science Leaders (to be revealed shortly).
Course Curriculum:
Jun 20 – Jun 30: Taught Curriculum by Core Faculty (almost full-time)
Theory Lectures, Data Tutorials, Toolkits, Daily Assignment (Deliverables).
July 1 – July 20: Supervised Deepdive in 1-2 domain areas (full-time or part-time)
Guest Lectures, Data Analysis, Readings, Weekly Assignment (Deliverables).
July 21 – Aug 20: AI or Data Projects in Teams (full-time or part-time)
Guest Lectures, Office-hours, Weekly Presentations, Final Submission.
Course Completion Certificate:
Awarded to participants who complete all course requirements (assessments, quizzes, assignments, and a project presentation).
