Late last year, a seismic change has occurred in the world of technology with potentially deep and far-reaching consequences to the world of education. The launch of ChatGPT by OpenAI, followed by other similar launches by rivals, has created a potential upheaval in the world of education but also new and exciting possibilities for personalised self-paced learning and upgradation to higher-order/thinking skills, etc.

While the first reaction has been that of amusement, followed by disbelief, there is also now a sense of fear and resignation setting in. However, ChatGPT and its class of Large Language and Deep Learning Models are now upon us and they will be used by students and teachers alike. We have the opportunity to take the initiative and build and guide the development of tools that will use these effectively – ensuring equity and learning – rather than wrongly through cheating and plagiarism or creating learning losses and gaps.

As the depth and breadth of the capabilities have become clearer over the last weeks, we’re making a SPECIAL CALL TO DEVELOPERS/DESIGNERS/WRITERS/ARTISTS/EDUCATORS/ENTREPRENEURS to BUILD APPS, PLUGGINS, AND TOOLS using ChatGPT, Generative AI, and other LLMs, etc. specifically tailored to Pakistani educational and workplace environments and our specific challenges.

This is a new and emerging domain and we’d like to work with you enable you to do a quick-and-dirty implementation and launch of a useful educational tool. We are exploring the possibility of providing support such as (1) access to knowhow and mentors, (2) match-making with technical and domain co-founders (3) compute/cloud credits, (4) access training datasets, (5) access to possible testbeds (such as schools), (6) commercial and go-to-market support, and (7) capital, where necessary, in exchange for a small equity in the venture to help you build and launch.
